Open Space Surveys
In 2013 CitiSpace completed a physical survey of over 1068 Reserved Opens Spaces shown in Greater Mumbai’s 1991 Development Plan. It included various features documented in a prescribed format as described in the introduction to the book Breathing Space.
The objective was to place the study in the public domain making the data accessible to citizens as well as policymakers in the hope that this information would serve as protection for all these public open spaces. This assumption was validated when a comparison between MCGM's Existing Land Use (ELU) survey and CitiSpace's survey showed up major discrepancies in over 650 of these Reserved Open Spaces.
